V-Day Bouquet

Here is another super easy V-day gift or decor. I had a small square vase and I filled it with the confection hearts, added Tootie Pops and Sweetheart suckers to the top to make a bouquet. I used Doodlebug Sweet Cakes paper and Pebbles With Love Dimensional sticker for the wrap around the vase. I am using mine as a decoration but it would make a great gift for a friend, sister, teacher, or co-worker! This took me about 15 minutes from start to finish to complete.
tip: I used double-sided tape to get the paper to stick to the vase.

Here is a super easy V-Day gift. We used the Pebbles With Love Paper, paper clips, and Dimensional Sticker. I used a clear cello bag and purchased sour lips candy although any candy will do. Super easy and Super cute! Just fill the bag with the candy, fold it down and staple closed. Cut 1 sheet of paper to fold over both sides of the treat bag. Slide it over the stapled part of the bag and use the paper clips to secure to the bag and together. Add the dimensional sticker and you are done!

I have been working on fun and easy projects that anyone can do to dress up their home for Valentines Day. When I pulled my decorations out for Valentines day I had 2 heart decorations and some red lights and that was it. Sad, I know, so this year I wanted to do more. I went to the store a picked up some candy and other things that would help me get started. Then I picked out some of my favorite Valentines paper, invited my sis and we went to town. She loves to cook so we had fun making cake pops and brownies. Then we made simple V-Day decor, gift, and party favors. I hope these ideas will get you in the mood to create and have fun.

Pebbles NEW With Love Line

I am a mom of four boys. My twins are in Kindergarten and excited to create their "mailbox" where other kids in class can deliver their Valentines but my older boys are more interested in Legos and DS games than cute hearts and sparkles. I try to keep them well-rounded by having them learn about art and etiquette as well as sports and gardening. I want them to grow up ready to take care of themselves and respect the differences in others.

So, for my older boys I try to get them involved in Valentines Day by having them make Valentines for their friends and family members. The only requirement is that they say something they like about the person and use their imagination to create the Valentine. I love the basic hearts and Alphabet stickers from Pebbles because boys and girls alike can use these. So I am one of those people who makes New Year's Resolutions on paper, but not in action. This year I am trying something a little different. I did write down what I want to accomplish this year but I am taking it one day at a time. I picked one goal on New Year's Day and I have been working on it every day this week. So far I have been successful! This is a big change from all the other years where I start and stop on January 1st. I am also reviewing my goals as often as possible, daily if I can.
One of my goals for our blog is to post weekly and make this a place of creativity and inspiration. I love Valentines Day. I have a guilty pleasure of buying the "old school" confection hearts and reading all of the messages to my boys or my husband every Valentines. I think they are so funny and cheesy but I have enjoyed them since I was a little girl.

Doodlebug is one of my favorite companies because they believe in color! Color inspires me. I know that many of you have never seen Doodlebug's warehouse but it is full of color. Each office in the front of the warehouse is a beautiful bright shade of pink, green, blue. I love it! As summer is winding down

and the kids are getting ready

The newest contributor to our blog.

My name is Rachelle,

I am one of Jorjana's many niece's.

She was and still is my favorite aunt.

I love when I have the opportunity

to work with her. She is so talented!!

I am married to a wonderful,

hard working man, whom I love dearly.

We met as young children, 8 yrs old to be exact.

Grew up together, attended church and school together.

Started dating each other at the tender age of 16.

We are high school sweethearts.

And finally married in beautiful Manti, Utah,

in May of 1997.

We have 3 amazing little boys.

I am so very proud of them.

These little guys mean the world to me.

I have been scrap booking for over 15 yrs.

Like many of you out there, I too

have a whole room dedicated to this hobby!

So much fun!!!!

I am thrilled Jorjana has asked me

to start blogging for her.

Just know that writing, spelling and

punctuation is not my thing.

So be kind with all my errors.

As you see in the last post that our

dear Russell Wentworth has passed on.

I am thankful that I can help my family

(in a small way) by taking care of this blog.

One less thing for Carissa and others to worry about.

This is a difficult thing to do. I have been contemplating how I could even begin to write this. As some of you may know, we are a small family owned business. Jorjana and I are the creators and managers of our company. My sister Carissa started and managed this blog for us until the needs of her family made it difficult to continue. Her husband, Russell, was diagnosed with a brain tumor seven years ago. He faced multiple rounds of intense treatments and surgeries with amazing strength and courage, but he lost the battle on July 20, 2011. We knew that his time with us was limited, but when he finally passed away, we could feel the loss of his amazing spirit. Russell was a remarkable, amazing man. He was a good husband and attentive father of three children. He was also a son, brother, son-in-law, brother-in-law and friend. He had an incredible zeal for the law and for what was right. He was incredibly intelligent and always finished what he started. Even when he knew that the tumor would win, he gave all that he had to his family and friends until the end. He had tremendous courage and truly endured until the end. We all loved and enjoyed Russell and he will be missed tremendously.

We have been traveling back and forth over the past six months to Denver to assist Russell and Carissa and their family. This has caused inconveniences for some of our customers. We want to thank all of you for your patience and understanding during this difficult time. We want you to know how much we appreciate all of the kind words and letters we have received. Thank you for your continued support as we move forward.

I think that maybe I should add ideas to our blog just a little more frequently.....Yikes! It's already been a month. Life sure has a funny way of getting in the way. Anyway I love the 4th of July. It is one of my favorite Holidays. Summertime is my favorite time of the year. I love sitting outside in the evening when it has cooled down just enough and watch my boys play soccer or croquet. I love hosting a BBQ especially for the 4th of July. I will color coordinate everything I can to make it special. The Yankee Doodles line from We R Memory Keepers is a fun, traditional 4th of July collection. I really liked the Candy Jar idea because you can use a mason jar or any type of jar to fill with candy, decorations, utensils, or whatever you want. I have really tried to decide what to post and have typed and retyped several things. I have taken over the blog...at least for now...while my dear sister Carissa takes some time with her family. I came across this super cute card on the pebbles inc. blog. What caught my eye right away was the title "laughter is good for the soul". I am the mother of 4 boys. My youngest are twins and I don't think that one day has gone by that I have not laughed or giggled at something my boys have done. I will admit, some days I have had the choice to laugh or cry and laughing seemed to be the better choice.(crying can take so much energy, and then there's the aftermath of swollen red face, headache etc....and what if you can't stop...then what?) Anyway, I just really enjoy all of the Happy Go Lucky line. I love the colors, the embellishments, the simplicity, everything! I hope you will all take advantage of this cute line too!

September Cards

I don't know about the rest of you, but we have started getting out our Halloween decorations. My kids get more excited every year. They've already chosen their costumes, and started a countdown until the magical night of candy. I am also a huge fan of Halloween, so of course I had to make Halloween cards this month.

Fall is just around the corner. Before you know it we'll be wearing jackets and boots instead of shorts and sandals. One of my favorite dishes for Fall is meatloaf. It's comfort food at its most basic. If you're not a fan of meatloaf, then you've never tried my take on Williams-Sonoma's Italian Meatloaf. Forget onions and ketchup, this meatloaf has pesto and sun dried tomatoes. I always double the recipe and make two loafs, one to cook and eat, and one to freeze for later. Once you have your ingredients you can whip this up and pop it in the oven in about 5 minutes.

Italian Meatloaf (adapted from Williams-Sonoma's Simple Suppers Cookbook)

1 lb. Lean ground beef
1/2 lb. Ground pork
4 oz. Pesto
1 cup Progresso Italian Style bread crumbs
4 oz.Oil-packed sun-dried tomatoes-chopped
1 Egg
1/2 tsp. Salt

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees

In a large bowl, combine the beef, pork, pesto, bread crumbs, sun-dried tomatoes, egg, and salt. Mix gently, but thoroughly with your hands. Form the mixture into a rough 9-by-5-inch loaf in an 11-by-7-inch shallow baking dish.

Bake the meatloaf for approximately 45 minutes, or until the internal temperature is 160 degrees. Let the loaf stand in the pan for 5-10 minutes before slicing.

I like to serve this with either a Caesar or Caprese salad.

First of all let me introduce myself, I am Sinda, Carissa's younger sister and I have recently joined in the fun of our little family owned business so I will also be posting ideas on our blog periodically! This is my first real adventure in scrapbooking on my own and I have to say I am quite proud with how it turned out! My husband Dave also works for the company, he is the one who sends those of you on our Email list most of the daily Emails. So this is mine and my husbands wedding album.

This velvet album is from our Mr. & Mrs. Line from Teresa Collins. Most of the paper that I used is from the same line and is all double sided and so cute. All of the sayings that I used are on one side of the double sided card stock and I loved using the chipboard elements. Other things that I used were our Lush line from My Minds Eye. The Paper in the last image is from Lush as well as the bling on the front and back cover and the ribbon around the back cover. The other product I used a lot of is Chips from Pebbles. All of the cute flowers, hearts and swirls are from the Chips. The Flower that I tied to the side of the album is our velvet Florals from Heidi Swapp.

A friend of mine just had a baby. I wanted to make her family something super yummy to eat when they came home from the hospital. The first thing I thought of was chicken salad, wrapped in puff pastry. It is the ultimate in comfort food, and it's pretty easy to make. I always make two, one to eat, and one to freeze for later.

1 package of puff pastry sheets (I prefer Pepperidge Farms, in the freezer section)
2 boneless, skinless, chicken breasts
1 red pepper (diced)
1/2 cup of green onions(minced)
1 cup of shredded sharp cheddar cheese
1 cup of mayonnaise
1 egg
Olive Oil
salt and pepper to taste

Defrost puff pastry and pre-heat oven according to package directions

Cut the chicken breasts into bite-sized pieces and brown in a skillet using a little bit of olive oil, salt and pepper. Once the chicken is browned, set aside to cool.

In a bowl add cheese, green onions, red peppers, mayonnaise, salt and pepper, and chicken. Mix all together.

Spray a cookie sheet with Pam non-stick spray and lay one pastry sheet on the cookie sheet. Crack egg and beat it until well mixed. Brush egg on pastry. The pastry sheet should have three sections, cut the two side sections in one inch strips. Fill the middle of the pastry with salad mixture. Fold sides of of pastry over the top of the salad, alternating sides. Tuck in ends and brush egg mixture over the top. Repeat process for second pastry sheet. Bake according to pastry package directions, or until golden brown, about 15-18 minutes.

I don't know about you, but I am starting to get excited for the kids to go back to school. My children head back in about three weeks. As much as I love the lazy days of summer, I've started to miss having a structured routine.

I try to come up with lots of fun, educational, projects we can work on during the summer so my kids don't forget everything they learned in school while they're on vacation. When I saw this map on Amber Packer's blog I thought it would be a perfect end of summer project. She used My Mind's Eye's So Sophie line of papers and I love the color combination. This week's money saving tip is to buy ahead. I am always thinking about my family's future needs, so when I find something on sale, I can buy it and save myself a lot of money down the line.

For example, I have two kids heading to school this Fall. They will both need backpacks and lunch bags. When I was in Utah visiting family earlier this summer I stopped into Down East Outfitters (my favorite bargain hunting ground). They had monogrammed Pottery Barn Kids' backpacks, and lunch bags, on clearance for an additional 50% off their already low prices. I grabbed two sets of matching backpacks, and lunch bags for each kid. The backpacks were $5.00, and the lunch pails $2.50. I took them home, sat down with a seam ripper, and removed the monograms. Now I have two years worth of back to school supplies for two kids that cost me a grand total of $30. Even if I had purchased backpacks and lunch bags on sale at Target I would have paid at least $10 for each backpack, and $5.00 for a lunch bag. Plus, Pottery Barn Kids' bags are much higher quality and won't be coming apart at the seams by the end of the school year. Buying ahead means you save money, and get better quality.

I also use this principle with birthday and Christmas gifts. I try to buy items on clearance for at least 75% off, then store them until I need them. Many stores like Target, Toys R Us, and Walmart, mark down lots of toys in July and August to get ready for new Fall lines coming in. The next few weeks are the perfect time to stock up.

Clearly I have an obsession with raspberries. It's a sickness, I suppose. This week's recipe is for raspberry tarts.

* Prepare one package of puff pastry cups according to package. I use Pepperidge Farm, you can find it in the freezer section.
* Melt 1/2 cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips in the microwave (for one minute). Stir until smooth.
* Spoon melted chocolate into bottom of pastries.
* Mix one pint of raspberries with 1/4 cup raspberry jam, or enough to coat the raspberries.
* Pile berries into puff pastry cup.
* Top with whipped cream right before serving.

Some of my best finds on these sites have been gorgeous jewelry at giveaway prices. I mean, why buy costume jewelry, when you can get the real deal for the same price? I've also found great deals on name-brand children's clothing and toys. They also offer a lot of luxury brand purses, sunglasses, skincare, and make-up. Sometimes, the shipping can be slow on certain items, so you'll have to be patient if you buy from these sites.

Today's recipe is for my all time favorite thing to eat, homemade raspberry freezer jam. Now I have to tell you that I am a bit of a snob when it comes to jams. I have tried tons of different brands in my quest to find one as good as my mom's freezer jam. I have even sampled the same jam that the Queen of England likes, but none hold a candle to this fantastic jam. You can make this jam at home in about 45 minutes and then freeze it for up to a year. I have one jam making day a year, and make enough jam for my family, and to give as gifts to my friends and neighbors.

Ingredients:

4 cups of mashed fruit (5 pints of raspberries)
1 cup of sugar
1 medium lemon
1 packet of pectin for freezer jam

Directions:

1. Rinse and drain 5 pints of raspberries in a large bowl.
2. Using a potato masher, smash the berries until there are no longer large chunks.
3. In a separate bowl, stir together sugar and fruit pectin.
4. Squeeze the lemon into a bowl, remove all seeds.
5. Add the lemon and pectin/sugar mixture to the bowl with the smashed berries and stir for 3 minutes.
6. Ladle the jam into jam jars, let sit for 30 minutes.
7. Freeze, or eat your jam.

While I was in Utah a few weeks ago we had a family dinner. My sister Shayna brought this amazing rainbow fruit salad. I loved the presentation and can't wait to make one myself for our next bar-b-que. I think I will use peaches or apricots for the orange section since mandarins aren't in season anymore. All the kids at the dinner thought it looked so pretty that they couldn't stop eating it.

Letterpress Love

First off let my give you all a quick update on my husband. He had surgery last Thursday to remove the new tumor growth. The surgery went really well. There have been a few complications since, but he is now home and doing much better. Thank you for all your kind thoughts and prayers for our family at this difficult time.

One of the nice things about Russell's surgery was that my mom came to visit and she brought me a lovely QuicKutz Letterpress machine. We have had a lot of wonderful people doing amazing things for us for the last few weeks and I have a ton of thank you cards I need to get out. I figured I might as well try out my new toy and make the thank you cards myself.

I was quite intimidated by the whole process at first, but once I got started it couldn't have been easier. The best tip I can give you when starting to use your letterpress for the first time is to get a wet paper towel and make sure you wipe off any ink that isn't on the print plate where you want it. That way you won't end up with smudges. I had so much fun printing my first set of cards and now I can't wait to plan other beautiful projects. Camera Case

My husband and I own two giant Nikon cameras. They each have several fabulous lenses. They each require an enormous sling to transport them safely from place to place. They take the most fantastic pictures. I have no complaints about our cameras, except, that they're huge. You can't just throw them in your bag and go. Of course we have a couple of smaller cameras too. I keep one in my purse. I like to be able to grab it quickly when needed. Enter this lovely camera case in a bright lime green by All My Memories. I know things have been pretty slow on this blog lately. You'll have to excuse the lack of posts. It's not because I've lost interest in crafting. Six years ago my amazing husband was diagnosed with a brain tumor. It was slow growth at the time and he had surgery to remove most of it. Almost three years ago, shortly after we moved to Colorado, the tumor became very malignant. He had more surgery, and has been receiving treatment in the form of chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and other oral therapies ever since.

At the beginning of last week he had an MRI (he has one every two months) and it detected new tumor growth. This has been a terrible blow to us. Because of the type of tumor he has, he needed to go three years without new growth to be considered in remission. We were only 6 months away from the three-year mark. Now the clock starts over. His doctors are recommending more surgery, and a whole new round of stronger chemo. We are still in the process of formulating a treatment plan.

I'm writing about this, not to garner sympathy, but hopefully patience. I really love blogging and it has been wonderful to hear all your kind and thoughtful comments. I also am inspired by your creativity, and love checking out your blogs. I will strive to keep this blog more up to date, but if things drop off for a while, just know that I'm struggling to keep my head above water.

You may have noticed our little button about the Casual Blogger Conference. It's going to be held in Sandy, Utah May 28-29. If you love to blog, or love to read other people's blogs, you really must attend. I am traveling all the way from Colorado (I know it's not really that far to travel) to attend.

We have a little problem. We have not heard from either of the winner's chosen for this month's giveaway. I did e-mail them as some of you suggested. The problem with e-mail is that some people don't check theirs that often. Another issue is that my e-mails might get stuck in some spam folder since I'm probably not on your list of approved e-mails. I check my e-mail about 10 times a day, and I also check my spam folders every day. We don't want this monthly giveaway to turn into something that hurts people's feelings and makes them think badly of us. It's supposed to be fun.

Valentine's Day Cards

This is the first year that my daughter has taken Valentines to school, and she was very excited We bought little cellophane bags from Michaels, filled them with nerds and pin ball games, added a little card, and tied them with ribbon. According to my daughter, they were a huge hit.

Birthday Hats

A couple of years ago I went to the store looking for cute party hats for my daughter's birthday party. I was dismayed to discover that not only was the selection quite small, it was also quite unattractive. Well, I was determined to have cute party hats so I bought an inexpensive package of ugly hats and took them home. I then took one apart and made a template for the rest of the hats. A little big of cute cardstock, ribbon, and glue later, and voila, darling party hats. Since it was so easy to do the first time, it is now tradition for me to make party hats for my kids each year.

I think I want to make this year's hats out of Basic Grey's Urban Prairie papers. On sale here.
